Road Safety and You

public - created 03/01/04
Hello Fellow Roadie!

Your roads are a vital part of your country?s growth and development. But, with more traffic, more and more people die and are injured in accidents.

Worldwide, over 1 million people are killed and 50 million people are injured each year. In India, the figures are alarming too.

For example, in a city like Bangalore with a population of over 5 million, the traffic stands at a staggering 14.5-lakh vehicles in 2001 an unimaginable growth of more than 200% in 14 years. (www.blrforward.org )

Bangalore alone adds nearly 500 new, young and inexperienced drivers onto the roads every day.

Apart from the human suffering, accidents cost a great deal of money, time and effort.
But this waste is not inevitable.

You can help reverse this trend. By understanding your road rules better and working together, you and your fellow citizens can make a real difference.

Friends For Life ( www.geocities.com/acampaigner ) encourage you to bring about change and be part of the solution rather than the problem.

Driving is a privilege, not a right. We invite you to be the difference on the roads.

Do post your comments, ideas and suggestions on making our roads a safety place. Or drop a line to acampaigner@yahoo.com
